FAS celebrates six staff in the prestigious 2021 President’s Outstanding Staff Awards

As part of the President’s Staff Awards, on May 12, the UT Tower was lit in honor of award recipients. Every year the university president honors staff who contribute to the institution’s success by granting 30 Outstanding Staff Awards and four Outstanding Supervisor Awards. This year six FAS staff received the prestigious Outstanding Staff Award.

UTCDC celebrates diversity with multicultural drive-through festival and bookfair

On April 24, the UT Child Development Center (UTCDC) partnered with families and a local Black-owned bookstore to host a multicultural drive-through festival and bookfair for children and their families. The multicultural festival is an annual celebration of diversity that provides children an opportunity to learn and explore different cultures from around the world.

Collaboration among FAS units and campus partners improves tuition billing and payment processes for students

Starting with the fall 2021 semester, the university will implement improvements to tuition billing and payments that will make it easier for students to pay their tuition and to receive financial aid and scholarships. These process improvements are the result of collaboration that began in November 2019 with the support of Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Darrell Bazzell and then-provost Maurie McInnis.

Videos and photos are excellent tools for increasing organizational reach on social media and engaging employees and others in innovative ways, according to FAS Media Manager Veronica Trevino. In her research, she found that video is the most preferred content on social media. In one survey, 81 percent of people preferred video content compared to a 31 percent preference for text posts. Content paired with an image can attract 94 percent more views on average than content without visuals.

eBITS team develops and enhances innovative training in administrative and financial systems basics

The UT Austin Enterprise Business Information Technology Solutions (eBITS) organization includes an Enterprise Customer Service (ECS) unit whose training team strives to provide the university community with access to the information they need regarding the financial systems and the human resources (HR) and payroll administrative systems, according to LeeAnn Gibson, ECS business relationship manager. Gibson explained that the ECS mission is also to enable customers to do their work effectively and efficiently with minimal time spent looking for answers to their system-related questions. For these reasons, ECS has worked to offer learning opportunities and accessible resources that build understanding and knowledge of the university’s business processes and system functionality.

FAS units worked together to purchase and install COVID-19 vaccine freezers

Initially, the Pfizer vaccine was the only approved COVID-19 vaccine, and it required storage in an ultra-low, -80 degree freezer. To be able to receive and properly store the Pfizer vaccine, the university took steps that included purchasing and installing these freezers. Consequently, UT received the Pfizer vaccine and was able to begin vaccinating staff who are frontline health care workers in December 2020.

Reuse Store offers sustainable and fun shopping experience

Where can shoppers purchase inexpensive home or apartment-size furnishings, electronics, art and books originating from the university? What about low-cost UT-branded apparel and memorabilia? All of these items and more are available at the UT Surplus REuse Store. Launched in 2018, the REuse Store was first proposed by Ben Reid, manager of Building Logistics and Keys, in 2015. Besides providing value to customers, the UT Surplus REuse Store is also a creative way to reduce waste as part of the university’s Zero Waste Program.

Explore and appreciate the Black experience

Dear FAS Colleagues,

Celebrated in America each February, Black History Month gives us the opportunity to explore the unique nature of the Black experience. This month and in the years ahead, I encourage all of us to acknowledge and celebrate the multitude of contributions made by African Americans during our nation’s history. Moreover, I encourage all of us to do so with appreciation for the struggles against inequities with which such contributions have been achieved, including within our own university. As a Black man, I find these achievements to be inspiring, and I also strongly believe that they belong to and can inspire us all to overcome whatever difficulties we may face.
