Lori Peterson named executive director of AFM, demonstrates service and leadership during pandemic

Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Darrell Bazzell announced on Tuesday, July 15, that Lori Peterson has been appointed executive director for Accounting and Financial Management (AFM) effective immediately. For the last year, Lori has led the AFM team as the interim assistant vice president.

“Lori quickly stepped into the role to oversee the university’s financial services and operations, and her steady guidance has been particularly critical as we continue to assess and navigate the impacts of COVID-19 (coronavirus),” said Bazzell. “Interim appointments are intended to be short-term, and I am truly appreciative to Lori for her commitment during the university’s search for an associate vice president for finance. That effort is on hold given the process did not yield a candidate offer; I will revisit resuming the search at a later date, likely this fall.”

Peterson’s career with the university began as a financial analyst nearly 13 years ago. Since that time, she has held financial officer, assistant director, and director roles. Her executive director appointment makes her the permanent leader of AFM.

“It has been my pleasure to lead the talented AFM team and to partner with colleagues across campus as stewards of the university’s financial resources,” said Peterson. “I look forward to continuing our responsive and reliable financial management work that helps meet the diverse needs of the campus community.”
