199 FAS staff celebrated with the President’s 2022 Staff Service Awards

As part of the annual President’s Staff Awards, each year the university recognizes and honors the dedication of employees who have served the university for 10 or more years and reached major milestone years with its Service Awards. Staff receive their first service award for 10 years of eligible service and then every five years after that. This year the list comprises more than 900 staff across the university, with 199 of those coming from the FAS portfolio. Within the FAS awardees, years of service ranged from 10 to 40. This year’s recipients represent a combined 15,400 years of service to the university, with FAS award recipients totaling 3,310 years. Pictured right is an infographic that breaks down the count of FAS Staff Service Award winners.

In May, service award recipients will be mailed their certificates and lapel pins. And in honor of all the recipients, the main tower will be lit orange on May 12.

“It has been a pleasure working with Parking and Transportation Services for the past 40 years,” said Debbie Pardo, senior office assistant and recipient of the 40-year award. “I have made many friends throughout the years and enjoyed my work.”

With any program like this, there’s often a lot of work that goes on behind the scenes to make sure everything runs smoothly. Human Resources has worked very closely with the President’s Office to organize the award process. One FAS staff member who has been instrumental in producing this year’s program is HR Senior Administrative Associate Michele Bennett. From the start of the planning process, Michele has been involved in every facet of preparation, from working with the eBITS technology team on pulling/validating service dates for 900+ employees and designing reports to working with the lapel pin vendor, coordinating with Document Solutions for printing and mailing, and coordinating with University Communications and the President’s Office.

“I am so thankful to be involved in such an important staff recognition program," said Bennett. "Staff play a vital role in the success of the university and recognizing their service and contributions shows that they are valued and important. We recognize about 900 recipients a year, which means we have about 4,500 staff that have 10 or more years of service. That is an impressive percentage of our staff. Just think of the collective amount of institutional knowledge they carry,” she added. “These past couple of years we haven’t been able to gather and celebrate the awards at a campus-wide ceremony, but I am hopeful next year we will be able to celebrate together.”

FAS celebrates these individuals who are examples of dedication and commitment to serving the university. Their service and contributions help transform lives across the university and within our community.
