Language Services Pilot program aimed at making FAS workplace more inclusive

According to the American Community Survey (ASC) conducted by the U.S. Census Bureau, in 2019, more than 35% of Texas residents were speakers of a non-English language (higher than the national average of 22%). That life experience is reflected in Financial and Administrative Service’s (FAS) multilingual workforce and customer base, and for some staff and customers, being able to communicate at work in a language they easily understand can be a challenge. To start addressing this linguistic need, FAS recently launched a translation and transcription pilot program as a complement to the use of Google Translate on the portfolio’s webpages.

University Fleet Operations (UFO), part of Parking and Transportation Services, has been recognized for their consistent, exemplary service for the sixth year in a row as one of the 100 Best Fleets by the National Association of Fleet Administrators (NAFA). NAFA is the world’s largest membership association for individuals and teams who manage the vehicular fleet and mobility responsibilities for their employers.

This year the list comprises more than 900 staff across the university, with 199 of those coming from the FAS portfolio. Within the FAS awardees, years of service ranged from 10 to 40.

April 29 is National Arbor Day and last month The University of Texas at Austin earned 2021 Arbor Day Foundation Tree Campus Higher Education recognition for its commitment to promoting healthy trees and educating the campus community—all thanks to the efforts of Landscape & Integrated Building Services and its Urban Forestry team, as well as contributing students, staff, faculty and other campus partners. This marks the fourteenth consecutive year that the university has received this honor.
